Louisiana Joins Eighteen States Protecting Women in Women’s Sports

Men identifying as women and boys identifying as girls can no longer participate in
women’s sports in the state of Louisiana. There are now eighteen states that have codified such law on their
books: AL, AZ, AR, FL, GA, ID, IN, IA, KY, MS, MT, OK, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, WV.

It took two tries for the Louisiana state senate to be able to pass this through the
legislature. Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards had vetoed the legislation in 2021, but with a vote of 72-21,
the 2022 vote was beyond the Governor’s ability to veto. As the article notes, “While the bill represented a
victory for the women in the state, outside the state and in national competitions, the win might not carry.”
Biological women athletes from Louisiana may very well have to compete against biological men from say,
Michigan, where similar laws face steep resistance. At Chromosome Sports, we are adamant that only women
with XX chromosomes should be able to compete against each other. Biological men have XY chromosomes and
should compete in their own category.
